Alan's Bio
Alan Kemp first entered a boxing gym at the age of 8 after winding up on the losing end of several skirmishes with bullies in his tough Buffalo, New York neighborhood. His father Al, a former boxer and experienced trainer, thought it time for his young son to learn how to defend himself. Under his watchful eye and careful tutelage, Alan spent the next years transforming himself from a slight boy into a fine practitioner of what his father called the “Sweet Science” – or, the Art of Boxing.
By the time he was 15, Alan had won the first of three Golden Gloves Boxing Championships. As a two-time Open Class Champion he competed in two National Golden Gloves tournaments and went on to claim 59 wins in 65 bouts during a six year Amateur career. Eventually becoming a Professional Middleweight, Kemp attained a record of 12 victories and 2 defeats, scoring 11 knockouts. His only two losses coming from battles with former National Amateur Champion, Morris Jordan and Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Ronnie Harris.
Kemp was inducted into the Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011 and is a USA Boxing Certified Coach currently training several Amateur and Professional boxers including Orange County’s Daniel Kim, the 2012 National Invitational Blue & Gold Novice Light Welterweight Champion and popular local Professional. In 2018, Kemp received the United Combat Association Coach of the Year Award as the trainer of Chris Dubiansky, the reigning UCA California Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight Champion.
As a Boxing Coach, Alan Kemp strives to bring the same dedication and passion to the sport his father did. “Whether for competition or physical fitness, I believe that the relationship between coach and athlete is a collaborative one, with the coach guiding the athlete to reach for his or her greatest potential. The process of training is hard work for both but, it can also be fun and ultimately, very satisfying”, says Kemp.
At Bobby’s Boxing and Fitness, Coach Alan offers personal training in Classic Boxing for boys and girls 8 years of age and above and for men and women of all ages. The training sessions are designed to teach basic fundamentals as well as advanced technical skills, while monitoring for continuous improvement and fitness.
